Trophies and Medals for a Running Race or Marathon: A Guide for Organizers

A running race is a highlight for participants. The keepsake handed out at the finish line often matters as much as the finishing time. Whether you organize a small neighborhood run or a regional marathon, choosing the right medals and trophies makes all the difference.
Start with the finisher medal. It is the one every runner will proudly wear and photograph. Plan for one per registered participant, plus a reserve of about 5 to 10% for last-minute registrations and surprises. A medal with a printed ribbon in your event colors and a personalized center featuring the logo, distance and year gives a polished result at a reasonable cost in large quantities.
Next, think about distinguishing the distances. A distinct color or shape for the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon helps runners recognize their achievement. It also makes distribution easier on race day, since volunteers can find the right medal at a glance.
For the podiums, choose trophies or plaques by category: first, second and third place, men and women, and age groups. A plaque laser-engraved on wood or acrylic glass remains elegant, light to carry and easy for the winner to store. Don't forget special mentions, such as the youngest finisher, the oldest finisher or the best costume. They add good cheer.
Also plan a token of recognition for your sponsors and volunteers. A small thank-you plaque is an excellent loyalty gesture for the next edition.
As for timing, order at least four to six weeks before the race. Large quantities, personalization and delivery need a little margin. If you plan an annual event, keep your template: only the year will change, saving you time and money.
At the Mr Trophée workshop in Léry, we engrave and color-print custom medals and trophies for organizers across the province. You can pick up your order at the workshop or have it delivered, and our best price guarantee in Canada helps you stay on budget.
