Trophies and Medals for a Dance, Gymnastics or Figure Skating Competition: A Guide for Clubs

A dance, gymnastics or figure skating competition is nothing like a team tournament. Each athlete or duo stands out individually, and categories multiply: age groups, skill levels, disciplines, solos, duos and groups. As a result, the number of awards to order climbs quickly, and good planning becomes essential.
Start by calculating your quantities. Multiply the number of categories by the number of places you want to reward, usually the top three. Then add participation awards if every young athlete goes home with a keepsake. Plan for a small margin, around 5 to 10%, to cover ties, last-minute categories or registration errors.
As for formats, each type of award has its role. Medals are perfect for individual rankings: gold, silver and bronze are recognized at a glance, and kids love wearing them around their necks. Trophies are ideal for top honours, such as the overall championship, best choreography or the people's choice award. Plaques are a great way to thank judges, guest coaches, volunteers and sponsors.
Personalization adds value to the keepsake. Include the name of the competition, the year and, if possible, the logo of your club or event. Color printing reproduces a logo faithfully, while laser engraving is perfect for names, titles and dates on trophies and plaques. A ribbon in your club's colors adds a nice finishing touch at little cost.
Also think about visual hierarchy. A taller trophy for first place, slightly smaller ones for second and third: athletes understand the ranking right away, and the podium ceremony gains in impact. For young beginners, a mini trophy or a participation medal remains an excellent choice that avoids disappointment.
Finally, don't wait until the last minute. Order a few weeks before the event to leave time to confirm the texts and make corrections if needed. A misspelled name on a medal happens easily, so have a second volunteer parent proofread the list.
