School Merit Awards: Choosing Trophies and Medals for Your End-of-Year Gala

Every spring, Quebec schools celebrate the end of the year with a merit gala. For many students, it is the first time their name is called in front of their parents and classmates. Choosing the right awards makes all the difference, and it is not just a matter of budget. Start by defining your categories. Academic excellence is a classic, but also think about effort and perseverance, community involvement, sportsmanship, outstanding progress, creativity or the arts. The more varied the categories, the more students will see themselves in the ceremony. Next, match each category with the right format. Engraved medals work very well when you are recognizing a large number of students: they are lightweight, durable and easy to hand out. Plaques are ideal for special mentions or honor certificates that can be framed. Trophies are perfect for top awards such as "Student of the Year" or "Athletic Merit." A perpetual trophy, to which a small plaque with the winner's name is added each year, creates a lovely tradition for the school. Engraving requires care. Send your names in a spreadsheet rather than in an email, and proofread them closely: accents, hyphens and compound names are the most common errors. A misspelled name on a trophy is noticed right away and spoils a moment that was meant to be perfect. Also consider including the school year and the school name so the piece remains a lasting keepsake. As for timing, June is a very busy period for everyone. Ideally, place your order three to four weeks before the gala, once the winners are confirmed, leaving some room for possible corrections. If winners are chosen late, you can have the fixed elements engraved first (school, year, award title) and add the names afterward. Finally, keep an eye on your budget without sacrificing quality. At Mr Trophée, we offer the best price guarantee in Canada, with laser engraving and color printing to reproduce your school's logo. You can pick up your order directly at our workshop in Léry or choose delivery. Planning a merit gala?
