End-of-Season Minor Hockey Trophies: A Guide to Rewarding Your Players

The end of the minor hockey season is a moment kids look forward to all year. Whether you run an association, coach a team or volunteer as a parent, choosing the right trophies takes a bit of planning, but the result is worth it: a keepsake players will hold on to for years.
Start by defining your award categories. Every player should receive at least some form of recognition, such as a participation trophy or medal. Then add individual awards: most valuable player, sportsmanship, most improved, rookie of the year, best goaltender or top scorer. For the team, plan a champion or finalist trophy if the season calls for it.
Next, adapt your choices to the age group. For the youngest players (Initiation and Novice), it is best to give everyone the same brightly colored trophy so nobody feels left out. Starting in Atom and Peewee, you can introduce individual distinctions. For Bantam and Midget players, more understated engraved plaques are very popular.
Also think about the text to engrave. The essentials fit in a few lines: the player's name, the award title, the season (for example 2025-2026), the category and the name of the association or team. If you have a logo, color printing reproduces it faithfully, while laser engraving gives a crisp, long-lasting result on plaques.
As for budget, ordering all your trophies at once helps reduce costs. You can also standardize one model from year to year, with interchangeable plaques, to keep a consistent look. Don't forget coaches, managers and volunteers: a small thank-you plaque is always appreciated.
Finally, be careful with timelines. Allow three to four weeks before the banquet date, and carefully check the spelling of every name before ordering, since a typo is hard to fix after engraving.
