Preparing Your Logo for Laser Engraving and Printing: File Formats and Best Practices
Ordering trophies or plaques with your company, club or school logo? The final result depends largely on the quality of the file you send us. At Mr Trophée in Léry, we regularly touch up logos, but a good starting point saves you time and ensures a flawless result. The ideal format is a vector file: AI, EPS, SVG or vector PDF. A vector logo can be enlarged or reduced without losing sharpness, which is perfect for going from a small keychain to a large wall plaque. If you don't have a vector file, a high-resolution PNG or JPG (ideally 300 dpi at final size) can work. For laser engraving, think simple. The laser works through contrast: it removes or marks the material, with no color nuances. Very fine lines (under half a millimetre), small text and subtle gradients may get lost on wood, glass, metal or acrylic. If your logo is complex, ask us for a simplified one-color version, which is often more elegant once engraved. For color printing, check the color mode. Screens use RGB, while printing relies on CMYK, which can slightly change certain shades, especially bright blues and neon greens. If your brand has specific colors, give us the Pantone code or provide your brand guide. Also leave safety margins so that no important element sits too close to the edge. Don't forget fonts. If your file contains text, convert it to outlines or attach the fonts used, otherwise the computer may replace them with others. What if you only have a screenshot or an old photo of your logo? No worries. Send us what you have: we can often redraw or vectorize it, and we will send you a proof before starting production. Before sending your order, check these few points: - the logo is in vector format or high resolution; - the text is legible and the lines are not too thin; - the important colors are identified; - you have the original file, not a compressed version. Need a hand? Write to us or drop by the Léry workshop. We validate your file, offer you a proof and give you the best price guaranteed in Canada, with pickup at the workshop or delivery.
